Job Overview

Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center.  We have an opportunity for a Marketing & Communications Coordinator at our Chicago facility.

Responsibilities

Shriners Children’s Chicago is currently hiring a Marketing and Communications Coordinator to join their creative team of professionals dedicated to Shriners 100-year mission of providing amazing care in the treatment of hundreds of orthopedic conditions, spine and scoliosis, cleft lip and palate and craniofacial conditions, and rehabilitation needs for children in the Midwest and beyond. The ideal candidate will have mid-level experience with writing/editing copy for stories, developing engaging social media content, event planning, and assisting with all types of internal and external communications including newsletters to support the hospital’s mission. Should enjoy working in a changing fun environment with children and medical professionals.

 

Supports the Marketing & Communications (MARCOM) Manager and MARCOM team across the healthcare system with: writing, editing, digital content management (website and social media) and strategy, internal and external communications.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Strategic Communications 55%

  • Write and post content for SC website, hospital magazine and social media channels. Create visuals and content for social media postings. Monitor social media and digital channels.
  • Research and write patient stories and other articles to support marketing, donor relations and business development.
  • Create digital content and execute location- and system-wide strategy
  • Coordinate internal communications
  • Follow AP style and SC identity standards

 

Collaborative Communications 35%

  • Encourage enthusiasm, positive morale and teamwork among employees
  • Work with other departments and medical staff to solicit stories
  • Assist research department with marketing communications support
  • Assist Manager with Shriners International temple relations
  • Coordinate facility special events such as public celebrations, celebrity and VIP visits and others as requested.
  • Manage and maintain patient ambassador program
  • Ensure confidentiality and patient privacy during tours, events and media visits
  • Present to Shriners International temples, community organizations or groups
  • Minimal travel to attend meeting or represent SHC at community, temple or fundraising events.
  • Provide photography and video filming/editing support

 

Departmental Support 10%

  • Provides reports on department activity and progress toward goals
  • Manage multiple projects
  • Upload photos, videos and consents to Digital Assets Management system
  • Research media outlets and maintain current media contact list, using media monitoring platform.
  • General office duties including, but not limited to, answering phones, filing, inventory of marketing collateral, meeting minutes

Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of Marketing, Communications and Public Relations experience required
  • Mid-level writing and editing experience required
  • Experience creating internal and external newsletters required
  • Social media platform (such as Hootsuite) creation and digital channel management experience required
  • Basic media relations experience required
  • Photography and/or Videography experience preferred
  • MS Office Suite proficiency required

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED/PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field required
