Job Overview

Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center.  We have an opportunity for a Pediatric Registered Nurse in our Inpatient Unit within our weekend program. The Pediatric RN on the Weekend Program at SHC works two-12 hour shifts per week (0.6FTE), Saturday and Sunday.  7pm - 7am are the scheduled shifts.

The Inpatient Unit at Shriners Children's Philadelphia is a 34 bed unit. Nurses work with patients at 1:4 ratio which may decrease depending on patient acuity.

Responsibilities

Inpatient Pediatric Registered Nurses will have the opportunity to expand their practice through exposure to all of our lines of service, including Burns, Orthopaedics, and Cleft Lip and Palate.  In this position, you’ll continue to help our patients through their journey as they have been released from the ICU and are on their way to recovery.   This involves providing Med-Surg level of nursing care, including wound care and teaching patients and families as they are learning home care. 

The Inpatient Unit team works in a self-scheduled environment.

 

  • Assesses comprehensive data including but not limited to physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs and interprets assessment information to derive the diagnosis or issues as defined by the patient’s condition.
  • Uses evidence-based assessment techniques and instruments in collecting data and validates the diagnosis or issue with the patient, family and healthcare team members as appropriate.
  • Prioritizes the data and information collected based on patient’s immediate condition or anticipated needs and identifies potential risks or barriers to the patient’s health or safety.
  • Involves patient, family and healthcare team members in formulating a culturally appropriate individualized plan of care and identifies expected outcomes based on nursing assessment and diagnosis.
  • Applies evidence-based nursing practices in developing the individualized plan of care to attain expected outcomes and continuity of care.
  • Modifies the individualized plan of care according to the ongoing assessment and reevaluation of the patient’s response, status, and outcome indicators.
  • Prioritizes interventions based on patient’s condition, preferences, situation, or anticipated needs and performs clinical treatments and procedures according to established procedural guidelines and protocols.
  • Utilizes teaching strategies appropriate to the individual patient’s condition and learning needs.
  • Uses health promotion to support patients and families in developing skills that promote, maintain, or restore healthy lifestyles and self-management support.
