Job Overview

Shriners Children's Chicago has an opportunity for a part-time Infection Control Coordinator

Join a team of professionals committed to improving children's lives.  Our top healthcare professionals excel in their practices and provide compassionate, family-centered care to children who need it most.  Hours:  Minimally 24 hours weekly. 

Responsibilities

The Infection Control Coordinator functions independently with specialized knowledge in infection control and hospital epidemiology.  Implements hospital wide infection control programs as recommended and approved.  Actively participates in activities related to the surveillance, prevention and control of nosocomial infections.  Acts as the Exposure Control Officer and implements Exposure Control Program as approved per Infection Control Committee.  Maintains an accurate and current database for programs.  Screens personnel for infectious disease by testing and periodically screening existing employees. 

 

Epidemiologic Surveillance
• Monitors the occurrence of infections of patients within the hospital.
• Coordinates all activities related to the surveillance, prevention and control of healthcare associated infections and/or the spread of community acquired infections within the hospital.
• Identifies healthcare associated infections and potential infectious hazards in the hospital through surveillance.

 

Leadership
• Formulates policies and procedures to control infections based on data generated by surveillance and other resources.
• Ensures compliance with OSHA, Joint Commission, IDPH, CDC, FDA, ASHRE, SHEA, AIA and APIC standards as they relate to infection control practices.

 

Performance Improvement
• Ensures that the infection control program is focused toward improvement of processes and outcomes.
• Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of an effective system to monitor and evaluate aspects of care and service provided by the hospital.
• Assesses quality of the infection control program by evaluating customer satisfaction, efficacy, timeliness, effectiveness and efficiency.

 

Education
• Provides education to staff on infection control issues and practices.
• Provides education on infection control issues and practices.to patients and families as needed.
• Provides infection control education for all new employees.
• Acts as a resource related to infection control to all employees in all hospital depts. on a consistent basis.
• Directs education efforts at interventions to reduce healthcare associated infection risks.

Qualifications

Required:  

  • One year Infection Control

 

Preferred:

  • One year Occupational Health Services 
  • RN Licensure State of Illinois
  • Association of Professionals in Infection Control (APIC)
  • Appropriate background in infection control with demonstrated program management experience.
