Shriners Children's Portland is seeking a full-time Surgical Technologist to join our team! This position provides high quality and individualized patient care based on the application of surgical technologist knowledge and education, as well as excellent interpersonal skills. Provides care during the intraoperative, preoperative, and postoperative phases of the patient’s surgical experience.

Responsibilities

As a Scrub Tech, you'll have the opportunity to assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures.  You'll assist in preparation of surgical services to ensure suite setup is appropriate.

 

Requirements include:

  • Competency to create and maintain a sterile field, providing equipment and supplies, performing sponge, sharps and instruments counts.
  • Providing visualization of operative site.
  • Independently pulls cases utilizing preference sheets and OR special equipment lists.
  • Updates, reviews lists making changes as necessary. Reviews cases, and equipment prior to start of case.
  • Is scrubbed in and has equipment prior to patient arriving into the OR suite
  • Verifying efficacy of equipment, operating, maintaining, verifying, and recording efficacy of equipment
  • Determines and documents efficacy of equipment. Records reflect accurate description of operations, sterilization, and use of equipment
  • Familiar with proper assembly, operation, and disassembly of all OR equipment and attends in-service on new equipment
  • Attends in-service on new equipment, completes competency evaluation successful in operation and maintaining equipment used within the department

 

In depth knowledge of principles of sterile technique; General knowledge of anatomy, surgical procedures with emphasis on our specific procedures; Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures with emphasis on operating room policies and procedures; Knowledge of surgical principals of decontamination, sterilization process and operation of flash and steam autoclaves and washer decontamination.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to multitask, utilization of constructive consideration when working with families, patients, coworkers, and physicians. Encouraging and enforcing a safe environment for patients and coworkers.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-year operative scrub experience with specialized expertise in pediatric orthopedics preferred
  • Graduate of an Surgical Technology Program
  • Current Surgical Technology Certification
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Card Certification
  • Knowledge of surgical principles and aseptic technique
  • Broad knowledge base of surgical instrumentation and application
  • Proficient of medical terminology, human anatomy and surgical equipment
  • Effective interpersonal skills and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent communication and listening skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a team
  • Demonstrates effective problem solving skills
  • Must have the flexibility to alter assignments on short notice and work with diverse personalities and changing situations
