Job Overview

Schedule: On-Call (temporarily) – Expected to turn into full-time permanently later this year as our outreach & clinic department expands (more details to follow)

Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center.  Our Spokane facility specialize in orthopedics and we have an opportunity for an on-call Community Certified Athletic Trainer!

 

The Community Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing on-site assessment, and management of injuries (both acute and chronic) to assigned facility athletes. CATC will provide appropriate immediate treatment to athletes and provide appropriate referral to outside providers. Treatment may include rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletes as they progress in their treatment plans. CATC may be required to develop training programs and educate local athletes on injury prevention, conditioning activities and injury treatment.  

Responsibilities

  • Provide athletic training services in schools or other non-clinical settings as indicated by contract. Serves as onsite Athletic Trainer for variety of sports offered by schools.
  • Provide sports athletic training medical care to athletes, including evaluations & diagnosis, acute care, treatment, rehabilitation sessions as needed, in accordance with Athletic Training scope.  
  • Participate and attend scheduled practices and/or games as specified in site, fee for service, or community benefit agreement(s).
  • Implement specific treatment programs for various sports related injuries in accordance with various state licensing laws.
  • Serves as liaison between student athletes and other constituents such as family physicians and specialists, school districts, or other personnel as appropriate.
  • Track and develop athletes’ injury, treatment and medication profiles. Provide timely reports to SHC and school athletic director/coaches as requested to assist with program development.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with other ATCs and sports personnel (i.e. coaches, team managers, Athletic Directors) on any athletes involved in serious injury treatment, including ailments such as concussions.
  • Coordinate with the SC rehabilitation therapy team to ensure continuity of post injury therapy treatment for athletes, whether located in school facility or clinical setting.
  • Provide supervision for student athletic trainers from approved athletic trainer programs.
  • Provide mentorship of identified less experienced ATs including onboarding and training as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

 

Clinical Responsibilities

 

Provide clinical athletic training services to SC Outpatient Clinic, as needed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIRED

 

  • Degree in Athletic Training, Bachelor’s or Master’s, required
  • Current Board of Certification ( BOC) or applicable state credential required
  • WA State AT Licensure required.
  • Current First Aid CPR/AED Certification required (BLS)

 

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

  • Three years athletic training experience, preferred
  • Additional relevant certification (CSCS, CNS, LMT, etc.), preferred
  • BLS instructor certification, preferred.
