We currently have an opening for a PRN Cast Technician to join our clinic team in Spokane Washington.

Job Overview

The Cast Technician provides assistance to the medical staff in the application, maintenance and removal of casts, traction and other splint or motion devices as ordered. informs patients/families, staff and students about the use and care of casts and traction devices. 

Responsibilities

  • Performs direct and indirect patient care activities within the scope of practice of an Orthopedic Technician and the Outpatient Clinic (OPC) standard of care. 
  • Evaluates patients scheduled in the cast clinic. Notes condition of the cast prior to removal and upon removal of cast. inspects the skin for signs of infection, redness or breakdown. Reports observations to the Charge Nurse or Provider. 
  • Under direction of the Provider, provides cast and skin care education to patients/families. Participates in reviewing the content of patient informational handouts and ensures that parents/families understand to expect during procedures. 
  • Assists other team members with rooming patients. Evaluates workload of staff within cast clinic and with Charge Nurse approval assigns additional tasks during down time. Participates in other duties as assigned. 
  • Demonstrates competency in the application, removal, maintenance, modifications of cast, splints and traction. Assists in applying, trimming, bivalve, univalve, of cast and splints in the cast clinic. 
  • Sets up and appropriately stores supplies and equipment at the beginning and end of each clinic. Ensures that traction setups are correct and safe prior to the beginning of casting procedures.

Hours of this position are Monday - Friday - 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., with a minimum of 2-4 shifts per month.

 

Qualifications

Education

Medical Assistant Certificate preferred, OR

Registered Orthopedic Technician REQUIRED

 

Experience

One year of experience as Orthopedic Technician, OR

One year of related work experience preferred

 

Certification

BLS required. 

 

Compensation

Compensation for this position is based upon experience and department equity, but ranges from $17.53 - $26.30.
