Job Overview

We currently have an opening for a full-time Medical Assistant to join our Portland, OR team. The Medical Assistant supports the medical and nursing staff in providing care to infants, toddlers, preschool-age, adolescent, and your adult patients during outpatient clinics by performing routine clerical tasks. Gathers information during the Intake process that assists the medical staff in diagnosing and treating patients. Information obtained includes patient history, heights and weights, vitals, allergies, medications, previous procedures, etc. Assists with cast applications and removals.

 

Schedule: Full-time M-F (in-person)

Holidays: 9 observed holidays per year

Compensation range: The hired applicant's placement within the range is based on qualifications, professional experience and education.

Responsibilities

Assessment/Patient Care
• Assists physicians, nursing and other health care professional with procedures, the intake and depart processes. Accurately documents findings during the intake process in the EMR.

Patient Care
• Measures, weighs, and obtains vitals and pulse oximetry and accurately documents in the computer. EKG, PFT, and lab draws as necessary.

Communication
• Provides effective communication with patients and families that will enable safe and effective patient care.

Customer Service
• Transfers and assists patients to examining rooms and other departments as necessary. Informs patients of any delays in care. Escorts patients to other services when needed.

Patient Information
• Maintains confidentiality with each interaction with patients, families, Shriners, staff and visitors. Refrains from loud discussions regarding particular patients and/or situations.

 

This is not an all inclusive list of this job's responsibilities. The incumbent may be required to perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. 

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon first day of hire (through American Heart Association)
  • Medical terminology 
  • Must be comfortable working within an electronic medical record
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills with a strong commitment to teamwork
Preferred:
  • Medical Assistant certification/program
  • 1 year of experience working as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinic setting
  • 2 years of recent medical assistant experience in a clinic or physician's office (beyond internship)
