Other specialties include spine and scoliosis care, plastic surgery, cleft lip and palate care, comprehensive rehabilitation and spinal cord injuries.

Job Overview

Shriners Children's Chicago an opportunity for a part-time / evening shift Health Unit Coordinator in our Inpatient Unit. Join a team of professionals committed to improving children's lives.  Our top healthcare professionals excel in their practices and provide compassionate, family-centered care to children who need it most.  Hours:  This is a 0.8 FTE / 32 hrs. weekly evening position. 

Responsibilities

  • The Health Unit Coordinator manages the communication center of the inpatient nursing units, communicating courteously, effectively, and efficiently with all customers.
  • Completes clinical information system and patient record responsibilities including admission, discharge, and transfers, patient registration, obtaining and updating insurance information; ensures that records are complete and accurate to allow for patient billing.
  • Ensures nursing staff is aware of patient needs communicated to the HUC through the nurse call system.
  • Notifies appropriate staff during emergency situations, acute admissions, and discharges.
  • Provides assistance as needed to the nursing staff.

Qualifications

 

Required:

  • High School Diploma / GED 
  • BLS certification

Preferred:

  • Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) certification
  • Experience in a healthcare setting and medical terminology
  • Previous HUC experience
