Job Overview

Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center.  We have an opportunity for an Assistant Nurse Manager in our Surgical Services department.

 

This position is full time, exempt and benefits eligible. The pay range for this position is $161,012/year - $228,800/year. Compensation is determined based on years of experience and departmental equity. 

Responsibilities

The Assistant Nurse Manager:

  • Coordinates and supervises the care of patients and collaborates with other members of the health care team to plan, implement, and evaluate appropriate interventions.
  • Assists in planning, evaluating, organizing, supervising and implementing activities related to patient and operational processes in accordance to unit / hospital policies and procedures.
  • Assists with coordination, supervision, assessment, and evaluation of staff performance, Joint Commission (TJC) readiness and emergency preparedness.
  • Provides for and evaluates the quality of patient care through direct observation and assessment in collaboration with nursing. 
  • Keeps the Manager informed of patient care and is responsible for department operations in the absence of the manager. 
  • Reviews staff documentation for completeness and accuracy while providing counseling of those discrepancies from acceptable standards.
  • Supervises, evaluates, and provides counseling to staff on their performance.  
  • Collaborates with the Manager in hiring staff, disciplinary actions, and employee recognition in a timely manner in accordance with Shriners Hospitals Policy and Procedure as proven by documentation. 
  • Manages the departmental staff by ensuring adequate numbers and type of staff necessary to provide safe, quality patient care, development of a competent staff for provision of care and mentoring of all categories of staff in patient care management.
  • Monitors quality of care in accordance with hospital policies and professional standards of care.
  •  Builds collaborative relationships with leadership, medical staff, peers, and hospital staff.

Qualifications

Education

 

Bachelor’s degree (BSN) required

 

Experience Required

3 years operating room experience

1 year supervisory/leadership experience

 

 

Other

Active RN license in CA

BLS required

Must acquire PALS within 6 months of hire

Must obtain CNOR certification within 12 months of hire
