Job Overview

Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center.  We have an opportunity for a full-time Cook to join our Nutrition Services team.

 

This position is full time, non-exempt and benefits eligible. The pay range for this position is $24.65 - $34.80/hour. Compensation is determined based on years of experience and departmental equity. 

 

Hours are typically 10:30am - 7pm Monday - Friday, but could vary slightly depending on coverage and special functions.  Weekends on occasion.

Responsibilities

Not your typical hospital cafeteria! Shriners Children's northern California offers a colorful, upbeat and fun work environment. As a member of our Nutrition Services team, you will be key in the success of creative daily meals for patients, cafeteria as well as special event catering.  The Cook is also responsible for providing quality foods at the right portion and served at the designated meal times. Cafe job duties include cooking on grill to order, making sandwiches and salads to order.  This position receives the order from the customer, prepares and cooks food according to instructions and performs fast and accurate cooking duties to serve the customer.  This position is responsible for the preparations and production for all meals.  Knowledge of modifed diets, IDDSI, is helpful. 

The successful candidate will be available to work on weekdays from 10:30am to 7:00pm and will also work weekends/holidays on occasion.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Graduate
  • At least one year cooking experience in a high volume setting
  • Work at a pace consistent with the changing volumes and demands
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have good working knowledge of food preparation
  • Must have good customer service skills and provide excellent customer service/satisfaction at all times
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Must be able to lift, walk, stand, stoop, and reach


Preferred:

  • Serve Safe certified a plus
