Job Overview

Under the leadership of the Outpatient Department Manager and the indirect supervision of Physicians/APPs, the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) assists with the delivery of patient care in the clinic by maintaining clinic flow, obtains routine clinical information on patients/families. Provides physical care of the patients; procures and maintains par levels of clinic supplies. Expected to provide clerical assistance as needed.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Appropriately triages patient calls or unscheduled visits and effectively communicates with provider, RN or Clinic Manager in order to
    obtain direction and for plan of care.
  • Completes phlebotomy/lab tests and initiates processing of specimen and record keeping according to departments policy and procedures
  • Documents appropriate notes in patient electronic medical record or chart including but not limited to intake notes, vital signs,
    measurements and pain assessments; also documents clear concise visit notes in medical record of all interactions with the patient/family or provider relative to treatment plan or
    updates.
  • Demonstrates competency in the use of the computerized charting system Epic; promotes My-chart for ease of access to medical records, images and notes for patient guardians.
  • Performs the following clinical patient care duties professionally & with adequate concern for patients: obtaining/drawing specimens.
    cast application, maintenance and removal; assisting w/suture & staple removal; or other duties as assigned by provider or supervisor.
  • Communicates with Care Manager when a patient is booked for surgery, needs transition planning, or requires assistance with resources

 

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diplomas/GED Equivalent required 
  • Three (3) year plus experience as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); CMA certification required.  
  • National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technology required within 12 months (1 year) of hire date

  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Required within 12 months (1 year) of hire date
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required  
  • Bi-lingual-Spanish/English strongly preferred
