Job Overview

The Associate Scientist will be a skilled molecular diagnostic technologist for Shriners Children's high complexity WGS-based testing laboratory, and will be responsible for performing and QCing nucleic acid based genomic analyses using a variety of assays for cutting edge Next Generation Sequencing based workflows, as well as providing technical support for procedures and related duties, ensuring smooth function of the clinical genomics laboratory.  The position will report into the Director of the Genomics Institute based in Tampa, Florida.

 

This is a 100% onsite position.

Responsibilities

  • Genomics techniques such as DNA isolation and QC, DNA quantitation and various sequencing applications with a focus on Next Generation Sequencing.
  • Follows experimental protocols according to established procedures and analyzes data under supervision
  • Familiarity with clinical laboratory procedures (CLIA, CAP), operating under a rigorous quality management framework, and SOP-driven workflows.
  • Generates and organizes experimental data accurately.
  • Prepares data for analysis accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Participates to its daily management in the LIMS and different servers.
  • Interacts with and assists research and clinical laboratory managers
  • Anticipates chemical and supply needs and keeps supply inventory up to date.
  • Actively participate in shipping project-related material to all centers.
  • Keeps accurate record of all ordered items.
  • Keeps MSDS folders up to date.
  • Performs general laboratory duties
  • Maintains accurate disposal records of waste including chemicals and biohazard materials.
  • Safety - according to OSHA and SBI policies.
  • Performs literature searches as needed.
  • Assists in preparation of manuscripts, grants and presentation.
  • Contributes to research planning and implementation of plans.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with members of SBI Research Community.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • 2 years of molecular diagnostic technology experience
  • Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Molecular Biology or related field

 

Preferred:

  • CLIA/CAP experience preferred
  • Clinical variant curation experience (using ACMG/AMP variant classification frameworks)
