Job Overview

Provides group recreation programs and individualized activities in coordination with Child Life and Therapeutic Recreation specialists for hospitalized children and adolescents. Oversees volunteers and central activity area to maintain a safe and inviting environment. Coordinates special events and programming for patients as well as sorting of toy donations received by the hospital.

 

The pay range for this position is $24.65 - $34.80/hourly. Compensation is determined based on years of experience and department equity. 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, implements, and supervises group recreation activities.
  • Supervises the central activity area during non-structured hours of operation facilitating socialization between patients and engaging patients in developmentally appropriate play.
  • Selects and provides activities for patients restricted to bedrest or isolation according to the needs, interests, and capabilities of the patient in coordination with TR/CL Specialist.
  • Coordinates the provision and appropriate use of supplies and equipment including toys, games, craft supplies, sports equipment, iPads, and video components.
  • Provides support to those patients in IOTP/Extended Stay programs ensuring they are appropriately included in all department programming and alerting Specialists to any individual needs that may arise.
  • Coordinates, implements and supervises special events to include holiday celebrations and visiting group entertainment utilizing the central activity area.
  • Supervises volunteers to oversee activities and ensure interactions between volunteers and patients are appropriate. Make assignments and ensure proper completion, in compliance with Volunteer Services and Therapeutic Recreation/Child Life policies and procedures and job description as assigned.
  • Orients and trains volunteers as to their responsibilities in the department. Monitors attendance and makes shift assignments to provide adequate volunteer coverage for the department.
  • Communicates with Therapeutic Recreation/Child Life staff and other hospital staff regarding patients' status, interests, and needs.
  • Consistently communicates with department manager and staff regarding the effectiveness of therapeutic recreation activities and programs. Makes suggestions for improvement or development of new activities as appropriate.
  • Maintains an environment in the central activity area that is stimulating, safe, and clean for the benefit of patient enjoyment.
  • Responsible for utilizing donations to stock playrooms and waiting areas throughout the hospital with age appropriate toys, games and puzzles.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BLS/CPR Certification

Preferred:

  • 1+ years of pediatric experience
  • Bachelors Degree in related field
