Job Overview

The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for identifying and cultivating prospective donors in the hospital’s community, soliciting donations, and nurturing donor relationships through regular contact, communication, and recognition. For fundraising, this position also develops and maintains relationships with hospital-affiliated Shrine Centers and the local community. All candidates must bring a mission-driven and community-minded approach to the role.  This position reports to the Senior Director of Philanthropy.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and executes a successful leadership-giving program to build the number and gifts from donors and corporations with the ability to make gifts of $1,000 or more, manage an appeal schedule and create solicitation mailings and lists, execute event logistics, work with third-party event fundraisers and visit groups and corporations and foundations on behalf of Shriners Children’s in Lexington, KY.
  • Works closely with the philanthropy team to execute operational strategies aimed at increasing the pool of prospective donors for major and annual campaigns, sponsorships, and foundation gifts. Responsibilities include reaching out to donors and funders for personal meetings, crafting solicitation proposals, organizing cultivation events, and actively soliciting donations
  • Oversees philanthropy team’s stewardship efforts including donor recognition, special events, stewardship mailings and annual impact reports for donors and funders
  • Manages assigned donors, tracks progress and results, and runs necessary reports using the Blackbaud CRM database. Uses the Classy peer-to-peer digital event management platform for donor communication and solicitation in partnership with the central office of philanthropy as appropriate
  • Provides staff support as assigned for fundraising committees and the Board of Governors

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • 5 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, including direct mail, grant writing, and face-to-face fundraising.  A track record of successful fundraising or similar accomplishments is essential.
  • Prior experience with event planning and management
  • Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent of education and experience
