Job Overview

Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric sub-specialties medical center.  We have an opportunity for a  Senior Child Life Specialist in our Portland facility.  The Senior Child Life Specialist position is responsible for mentoring staff in the provision of comprehensive, purposeful, developmentally, and culturally sensitive, family-centered care.  This care is focused on meeting the psychosocial and developmental needs of children and families.  Supports the ongoing development and improvement of the department through participation in special projects, performance improvement and facility committees.

Responsibilities

  • The Child Life Specialist is responsible to work with children, from infancy through adolescence, in a family centered care environment. This position provides services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Position requires strong skills in child development, assessment and planning, psychosocial support, procedural support and preparation, group leadership, volunteer supervision and goal directed play. 
  • Ensures that intervention is compliant with department policy and the professional standards of practice.
  • Utilizes electronic medical record applications to document relevant patient and family information.
  • Serves as a peer mentor through collaboration and recommendation to enhance treatment decisions as appropriate.  Participate in the orientation and education of new employees as assigned.
  • Holds self and others accountable for maintaining high ethical, professional, technical standards and core values while integrating those standards in everyday activities.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development or related field. Preferred

Experience

  • 5 year’s  Pediatric experience. Required

 

Certification/Licensure

  • Certified Child Life Specialist via the ACLP,  required
  • CPR/BLS
  • Valid drivers license
