About Shriners Children’s Philadelphia
Shriners Children’s Philadelphia is where hope and healing meet. Our team of highly specialized physicians provides comprehensive care for children with fractures, sports injuries, orthopedic conditions, scoliosis, spinal cord conditions, and spine injuries.
We have an opportunity for a full-time night shift House Supervisor to join our team.
Serves as a resource and supervisor of nursing staff on evening, nights, and weekend shifts and is responsible for hospital operations in the absence of a manager/administration. Provides clinical support and direct patient care when required.
Clinical Supervision
•Provides clinical supervision, making rounds in all departments, ascertaining that quality nursing , family centered care, and growth and development principles for infants, children and adolescents are provided.
•Demonstrates knowledge of the Code Blue procedure during an actual or “Mock” code, serving as a resource during emergencies.
•Demonstrates ability to use new equipment and changed protocols.
Communication
• Communicates effectively to the Administrator, Director of Patient Care Services, Management team, and Chief of Staff any emergency or concern regarding patients or hospital environment.
•Communicates effectively & professionally with patients, families, and staff incorporating family-centered care philosophy in providing nursing care.
•Keeps employees informed about departmental, hospital, and Shrine matters that would enhance understanding and performance.
•Demonstrates effective use of problem solving, conflict management, and teambuilding skills.
Staff Education
•Assists the Education Coordinator in the orientation and follow-up of all new employees and in the planning and presentation of in-service programs.
•Identifies opportunities for in-service education for staff and encourages participation in/with new equipment, orientation, and improved techniques/methodologies.
Intervention and Care Able to:
•Interpret electrocardiographic information and recognizes significant dysrhythmias.
•Interpret laboratory test values . Administer routinely used and emergency drugs.
•Administer parenteral fluids, blood, and blood products.
•Performs rapid assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
Intervention
•Implements care according to appropriate plan of care.
•Collaborates with other disciplines, as necessary, to ensure interventions - i.e. care coordination, nutrition, O.T., P.T., etc.
•Provides pre-op, post-op, and/or rehab care and reports pertinent changes in the patient's condition to the physician, and documents appropriately
•Competently uses equipment (ex. IV pump, PCA pump, oximeter, etc.)
•Assesses pain as “5th” vital sign and in interdisciplinary collaboration provides pain management by pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic methods (ex: music, distraction, imagery, relaxation) .
•Follows policies and procedures concerning medication administration, blood administration, and IV administration.
•Handles and monitors controlled substances according to hospital policy.
•Recognizes and reports medication/blood occurrences and actively participates in process improvements.
•Applies and maintains splints, orthotics, prosthetics, and traction correctly.
•Prevents and/or treats skin breakdown, neurovascular compromise, protocol, and physician orders.
•Provides accurate teaching to patients and families.
