The Boston Shriners Hospital is one of four pediatric burn specialty hospitals in Shriners Children’s health system and provide comprehensive care for cleft lip and palate, as well as other craniofacial anomalies, with a multidisciplinary care team.

Job Overview

The Intake Coordinator is responsible for a variety of patient access functions with the main focus on managing new patient applications and data entry for all domestic and international patients.  Receives and responds to incoming calls from referral sources or potential patients, processes physician referrals, communicates with patients or parents/guardians to obtain the necessary intake data, including but not limited to insurance information and medical records, performs data entry for all new intakes and ensures the necessary forms are signed.  

Serves as a backup and performs other general duties in the Patient Access department as needed.

 

Works closely with Care Management to schedule new and established patients for appropriate level of care in accordance with the hospital policies.  Registers patients for outside services at affiliate hospital. Keeps records accurate and organized.  Professionalism, HIPAA compliance and responsive communication with physicians, patients/families, and other departments is required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates administration of the new intakes for burn, plastic, inpatient admissions and international patients.
  • Ensures timely receipt of complete and accurate patient demographics, insurance and referring physician information as well as required forms.
  • Coordinates with outpatient department and care managers on patient scheduling.
  • Schedules outside services and assists with review of relevant records.
  • Provides patient financial counseling and assists with MEANS test and HEART applications.
  • Serves as a backup to registration and scheduling.
  • Responds to hospital calls.

Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma/GED

 

Experience

2 years of experience in a hospital or multi-disciplinary clinical setting

 

Preferred Skills

Excellent customer service and communication skills

Experience in patient access

Microsoft office proficiency

Spanish or other language is a plus
