Job Overview

The Principal Trainer, Epic is certified in their respective Epic application and works in collaboration with the Training Manager and the application analysts to develop training for end-users. The PT is responsible for developing and maintaining a clear knowledge of their respective application, training materials and the workflows associated with that application. PT’s demonstrate excellent presentation skills, and have an excellent ability to answer end-users questions related to their application.

Responsibilities

Training

  • Develops and maintains Epic course curriculum along with all training materials for the respective Epic application during implementations and upgrades.
  • Develops and maintains an in-depth understanding of workflows to properly develop training curriculum and related materials.
  • Builds, tests, and maintains the training environment.
  • Ensures all classroom training and related training materials adhere to current policies and procedures.
  • Conducts a credentialed training program as needed for implementations. This will include monitoring the trainer’s adherence to course curriculum, knowledge of applicable workflow, and overall Epic system knowledge.
  • Trains Super Users who will support end-users in classroom trainings and on-site and lead training efforts stemming from software upgrades and updates.
  • Coordinates closely with system analysts in order to develop proper training in consideration of all end-users roles and to ensure effective training in advance of software updates and new version releases.
  • Participates in testing and workflow validation of all new systems and modifications before implementation into the production environment.
  • Maintains customer service orientation and responsiveness.
  • Obtains and maintains certification within each assigned Epic application module.
  • Communicates effectively with project leadership, team members, and customers.
  • Willingness to travel overnight for educational classes and working non-standard and/or extended hours.
  • Utilizes project management skills to prioritize and manage assigned and unassigned tasks necessary to ensure a high quality training product is offered.


End-User Support

  • Supports at-the-elbow support during project go-lives and upgrades. Captures, documents details, and troubleshooting steps of an issue to identify resolution and/or escalate as needed. Utilizes ticketing system to track, route problems and requests, and document solutions.
  • Gathers information to understand a problem and educates the user on how to accomplish the desired task.
  • Works collaboratively with Super Users to vet issues and ensure internal education and collaboration with internal resources.
  • Completes rounds at assigned facilities. Rounds include checking with clinical and support staff to address questions and/or issues they are experiencing with Epic and related clinical applications, following up with previously provided support assistance, and completing rounding checklists in the appropriate timeframes after assigned initiatives.
  • Works with project/support team to identify and resolve workflow or application issues.
  • When on or near a site - provides on-the-floor rounding during unscheduled downtime, and serves as a liaison between the end-user and the IT/Epic team at large.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 3 years of experience developing and conducting Epic training in an adult education environment
  • 2 years of experience with EMR or enterprise software implementations, specifically with training of staff
  • 3 years of experience with physician/hospital workflows
  • Strong understanding of Adult Learning Theory and experience incorporating into stand-up adult classroom training
  • Bachelor's degree in related field - or 3 yrs of equivalent clinical or IS experience in lieu of degree
  • Epic certification in 1 or more Epic application (or agree to achieve certification within 180 days)
  •  

Preferred:

  • Project management experience
  • Epic certification in Access, Revenue, HIM or Billing
