Job Overview

The Data and Integrations Engineer at Shriners Children’s plays a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining data and integration systemsthat support the organization's data strategy. This individual is responsible for developing and managing pipelines that ingest, store, transform, andensure the quality of data across Shriners' data resources. Additionally, they support the seamless exchange of data across various healthcare andbusiness systems.


With a strong foundation in healthcare interoperability, data integration, and system reliability, this role ensures high availability and performance ofenterprise data solutions. The successful execution of these responsibilities enables Shriners Children’s to advance its data-driven strategy, enhancingpatient care and expanding access to more children in more places.

Responsibilities

Data Engineering & Integration

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, clinicians, and IT teams, to understand data and integration requirements.
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and integrate data from various healthcare systems, including EHRs, clinical systems, and external data providers.
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, and consistency across all integration and ETL processes.
  • Implement and support integration solutions using platforms such as Cerner Open Engine, Epic Bridges, and Infor Cloverleaf.
  • Develop and maintain data mappings, transformations, and workflows to facilitate seamless data exchange.
  • Optimize data structures and storage solutions for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot integration processes, identifying and resolving data-related performance bottlenecks.


Process & Compliance Management

  • Implement and oversee structured data engineering and integration lifecycles.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare data regulations and standards, including HIPAA, HL7, FHIR, and DICOM.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for data engineering workflows, integration processes, system configurations,and compliance requirements.
  • Assist in gathering and analyzing integration requirements from stakeholders, translating them into technical specifications and scalable solutions.


Collaboration & Communication

  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture focused on continuous improvement and excellence.
  • Work closely with internal and external partners, providing technical support and guidance on data integration and engineering best practices.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in healthcare data engineering and interoperability.
  • Utilize tools such as Microsoft Teams and Outlook to be available for meetings and ad-hoc communications during working hours.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Proven experience designing and maintaining data pipelines, ETL processes, and data integration solutions
  • Experience working with healthcare data systems, interoperability standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR, DICOM), and integration platforms such as Cerner Open Engine, Epic Bridges, and Infor Cloverleaf
  • Strong proficiency in data engineering frameworks, SQL, and programming languages such as Python
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies
  • Familiarity with APIs, web services, and real-time data integration methodologies
  • Understanding of data warehousing, database management, and data security best practices
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field

 

Preferred:

  • Experience in data engineering, healthcare integration, or a similar role
