Job Overview

The Health System Service Line Director provides executive-level leadership to a defined clinical service line across a multi-hospital system. This role is accountable for strategic planning, operational execution, quality outcomes, financial management, and growth initiatives. Acts as a key liaison between clinical teams, system leadership, and external partners to achieve organizational excellence and alignment.

 

Responsibilities

  • Drive integrated service line strategy—including market analysis, program growth, capital planning, and new service or technology introductions.
  • Oversee system-wide roll-out of standardized clinical protocols, continuous process improvement (Lean/Six Sigma), and operational best practices.
  • Manage annual budgets and forecasts; analyze financial performance and productivity; identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensure consistent service line quality outcomes and compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with physician leaders, executive teams, payers, and external stakeholders.
  • Lead and mentor service line managers/team leads—conducting performance reviews, coaching, and promoting professional development.
  • Leverage analytics and dashboards to monitor performance metrics and support leadership decision-making.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 7+ years of experience in leadership roles within multi-site health systems covering hospital, outpatient, and physician alignment, with demonstrated financial aid and operational accountability
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Business, Public Health or related field

 

Preferred:

  • 5+ years of experience in service line strategy development, physician dyad models, and payer or referral network gains
  • Masters' Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business or related field
  • Certification in healthcare marketing or outreach (e.g., SHSMD)
