Job Overview

Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center.  We have an opportunity for an Interpreter in our Care Management department.

 

This position is part time, non-exempt and health insurance eligible. The pay range for this position is $25.50 - $36.00/hour. Compensation is determined based on relevant experience and department equity.

 

Responsibilities

The Medical Interpreter is responsible for providing interpretation and translation services for patients and family members and staff at Shriners Hospitals for Children (SHC). Services include listening to, understanding, and interpreting spoken, or translating written, statements and documents from one language to another, in support of the medical treatment plan. In addition the medical interpreter will provide language and cultural support to patients and families and identify any cultural or language barriers to care. This service will require face-to-face interpreting between patients and providers and may also include family members or patient representatives. The medical interpreter will also be required to provide cultural information to the care team in order to facilitate the creation and adherence to a treatment plan and meet regulatory requirements.

 

  • Provides interpretation for patients , families, and caregivers to ensure understanding, informed consent, and ability to adhere to the treatment plan and receive full benefts of the treatment provided.
  • Translates clinical, procedural and educational documents by providing a written or oral translation, as indicated.
  • Assists SHC employees in understanding cultural differences and how language barriers may impact patient care andoverall outcomes.
  • Participates as a part of a multidisciplinary team (CDI/UM and Care Management) to plan future episodes of care forpatients with language barriers.
  • Maintains ethical boundaries and professional interactions with patients and families.
  • Facilitates service recovery for patient/family concerns when language barriers exist.

Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma or GED

 

Certification/Licensure

Medical Interpretation Certification preferred

 

Experience

Bilingual in English-Spanish - Required

Minimum 1 year of Medical Terminology

One year experience in clinical medical interpretation preferred
