Job Overview

Schedule: Part-Time 0.5 FTE

Hours: Mixed Schedule

 

Shriners Children's Chicago has an opportunity for a Dietetic Technician.  This position is responsible for screening of all patients admitted to the inpatient units, the processing of patient menus consistent with current nutritional principles which includes menu distribution, processing, and modified menus according to patterns established by the dietitian. Set-up trays for patient food service following individual menus. Responsible for cleanliness of work area and for safe and sanitary handling of food, equipment, and supplies.

 

The pay range for this position is $19.92/hour - $24.89/hour. Compensation is determined based on years of experience and departmental equity.  

Responsibilities

• Interview each new admission for likes and dislikes, nutrition concerns, gastrointestinal issues, supplement usage and introduce them to the meal service procedures at this hospital.
• Document information obtained in Emerge using the Initial Nutrition Assessment and plan form according to standards established by the dietitian.
• Provides basic nutrition teaching handout to each patient upon admission to the hospital with the offer of assistance from the clinical dietitian as desired.
• Documents the provision of the basic nutrition teaching handout to patient and families on the Initial Nutrition Assessment and plan form as directed by the dietitian.
• Work closely with registered dietitian to identify patient preferences, and refer patients for immediate assessment per established guidelines.
• Complete a daily log to identify the number of patients admitted, screened, and noted as triggers for the dietitian to see for in-depth assessment and intervention.

• Portion and place food servings on plates and trays according to diet and portion control.
• Prepares special items for consistency and supplemental diets.
• Prepare cold food items and desserts for the patient meal service.
• Maintains a clean work area.
• Maintains all food safety and sanitation standards.
• Inventory infant formula, oral supplements, and tube feeding products and order as needed.
• Label and distribute supplements and tube feedings per SHICS diet orders and/or dietitian recommendations.

Qualifications

High School / GED required.

Minimum one year related experience, preferably in a hospital or health care setting required.

Food Service Sanitation Certificate required.
