Job Overview

Shriners Children’s Northern California is seeking an Occupational Therapy Assistant to join the multidisciplinary team in our Pediatric Inpatient Rehabilitation program. The Physical Therapy Assistant provides occupational therapy treatment services for assigned inpatients and outpatients in a pediatric orthopedic, burn and rehabilitation hospital, under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist. To function as a member of an interdisciplinary team and to act as a resource to staff and families regarding assigned areas of responsibility.

 

This position is per diem, non-exempt and benefits eligible. The pay range for this position is $37.80/hour - $53.37/hour. Compensation is determined based on years of experience and departmental equity. 

Responsibilities

 

 

  • Identifies and screens patients for potential referral, in collaboration with an OTL. OTA s do not accept and enter cases at their own professional discretion without the collaboration and supervision of an OTL.
  • Assists with data collection and evaluation, under the supervision of an OTL. Gross assessment of the following may include: ROM, sensation, muscle strength, balance, tone, coordination, fine motor, self-care, home / community skills, developmental sequencing / milestones, cognitive skills, visual perceptual skills, transfers, wheelchair skills, prosthetic usage and equipment needs, as appropriate. Administers standardized tests under the supervision of an OTL after competency has been established.
  • Collaborates with an OTL in use of evaluation findings and department treatment protocols to formulate short and long term goals of each patient in a timely manner and in compliance with departmental policies and standards of care.
  • Develops and implements an occupational therapy treatment plan, under the supervision of an OTL, to address short and long term goals of each patient in a timely manner and in compliance with departmental policies and standards of care.
  • Communicates with OTL regarding information for interdisciplinary patient care planning during weekly team meeting sand patient care rounds. Presents information regarding patient status, including problems, progress and goals achieved and recommendation for continued therapy in a clear, concise and understandable manner.
  • Documents patient goals, treatment plan and progress accurately and within established timelines, utilizing appropriate forms / formats per department policies and procedures and in collaboration with supervising OTL
  • Maintains inventory of departmental supplies required to provide occupational therapy services through completion of appropriate requisition forms and obtaining final approvals

Qualifications

Required:

 

Associates Degree in Occupational Therapy

Occupational License in CA

CPR

 

Preferred:

1 year experience in pediatric, burns, ortho, and or rehab.

1 year experience as and Occupational Therapy Assistant
