Job Overview

The Regional Administrator is a strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing the performance, integration, and alignment of assigned healthcare facilities within a highly matrixed and mission-driven children’s subspecialty health system. This executive plays a critical role in driving volume growth consistent with Vision 2035, operational excellence, cultural cohesion, quality, and excellent patient care in alignment with system-wide goals and standards.

 

The incumbent partners with system leaders and facility-level executives to ensure exceptional patient and family satisfaction, clinical outcomes, fiscal stewardship, workforce engagement, and regulatory compliance. The role requires the ability to partner with the regional team and executives to eliminate operational barriers, standardize best practices across locations, and strategically grow regional reach through location expansion and enhanced community outreach.

 

Success in this role requires strategic thinking, strong relationship building (collaboration), adaptability, emotional intelligence (particularly self-awareness and empathy), and the ability to lead through complexity while fostering a unified system culture (systemness).

Responsibilities

  • Champion regional implementation of system-wide strategic initiatives and ensure alignment with system Core Values and Vision 2035.
  • Lead a diverse team of executives and multidisciplinary professionals across assigned facilities, fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Drive volume growth through service line optimization, strategic partnerships, and data-informed decision making.
  • Identify and eliminate systemic barriers and bottlenecks to timely decision making, quality improvement, operational efficiency, patient access, and workforce performance.
  • Align facility operations to best practices that support consistency, quality, and innovation.
  • Support growth of regional footprint through expansion of services and new location development.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the Executive Team, physicians, Boards of Governors, affiliates, and the Shriners fraternity.
  • Navigate the complexities of a matrixed organizational structure, ensuring integration and synergy across facilities and service lines.
  • Sponsor continuous improvement initiatives and cultivate an environment receptive to innovation and transformative thinking.
  • Foster a culture of high emotional intelligence and lead with self-awareness, empathy, and authentic communication.
  • Promote and reinforce a healthy, inclusive workplace culture focused on employee satisfaction and engagement.
  • Drive alignment with system-wide initiatives that promote systemness and organizational unity.
  • Lead with a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all facets of operations and workforce management.
  • Ensure effective communication and transparency across regional teams and system leadership.
  • Model and uphold ethical leadership, professionalism, and resilience in dynamic and high-pressure situations.
  • This role may require regular travel across the region and occasional system-wide travel.
  • Flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends, may be necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations, with experience in multi-site or regional management.
  • Proven success in leading within a matrixed or integrated delivery system, and oversight of multiple facilities and locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong physician and community relationships.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory and compliance environments.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience leading transformation initiatives across multiple entities.
  • Familiarity with value-based care models and health system integration.
  • Prior experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Demonstrated success in driving volume growth and enhancing patient access.
  • Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, or other recognized healthcare certification body.
