Job Overview

The Manager of Outpatient Department is a professional Registered Nurse responsible for creating safe, healthy environments that support the work of the team to improve patient health outcomes, patient engagement, and patient experience.  The role is influential in creating a professional environment and fostering an inter-professional culture guided by the SHC FOCUSED model of care.  The Manager provides service and supervision in the practices of nursing to ensure processes optimize (a) patient health, and (b) deployment and adherence to plan of care.  Shriners Children's Portland is looking for a full time Manager or Outpatient Services to join the team!

Responsibilities

  • Executes improvement initiatives in organizational processes and services, using quality improvement processes and assessment tools to better identify and serve customer needs
  • Relates well to people regardless of their organization level, personality, or background.  Understands the components of cultural competency as they apply to the workforce
  • Understands and assures compliance with various labor laws including state scope of practice, federal and state HR and Wage and Hour laws such as payment of overtime and FMLA
  • Follows through on commitments, focuses on top priorities, does not blame others and sustains an environment of trust
  • Understands the health insurance environment and leads team to capitalize on opportunities for good stewardship in managing fiscal resources
  • Implements strategic vision utilizing clear objectives and practical action plans providing clear guidelines for meeting goals
  • Uses effective communication skills that demonstrate acceptance for the customer's unique values, belief's, and practices
  • Promotes collaboration and removes obstacles to teamwork across the organization
  • Interacts with physicians and clinical staff members on patient care issues
  • Act in consultative manner with the Health Care Team
  • Ensures that patient and families who need immediate or routine care are appropriately identified and managed

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Bachelor Nursing
  • RN license in state of practice or license eligible
  • Certification in nursing specialty such as Pediatric Specialty, Ambulatory Nursing
  • 2 years Health-care in a Medical Surgical setting- If the candidate is not currently certified, certification will be required within one year of hire, or upon eligibility
  • BLS, PALS, ACLS- As Required by facility

Preferred

  • Master's Nursing
  • 3 years Demonstrated performance of progressive Leadership Skills
  • 3 years Management experience in a supervisory/leadership role
  • Experience with Outpatient Clinic Operations
  • 1 year clinical experience in at least one of the facility's service lines (SCI, Pediatric Orthopedics, Burn care, Cleft lip and palate)
