Job Overview

Based at Shriners Children’s International Headquarters in Tampa, FL, the Director of Planned Giving identifies, cultivates and solicits planned giving prospects and closes planned gifts and consults, educates and supports location and regional fundraisers with planned gift solicitations.

 

With guidance from the Executive Director of Planned Giving and support from skilled operations staff, the Director of Planned Giving is responsible for filling the planned giving pipeline to fuel Shriners Children’s philanthropic future. The ideal candidate is a fundraising professional with at least 10 years of experience and familiarity in closing planned gifts and is knowledgeable in legacy gift arrangements and diverse planned giving vehicles.

 

This is a hybrid position based in Tampa, FL with a mix of both onsite and remote work.  The ability to travel, maintain a schedule of personal donor visits, and attend evening and weekend meetings and events is required for this role.

Responsibilities

Planned Gift Cultivation, Solicitation, and Stewardship

  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward current donors and prospective donors of planned gifts and manage a portfolio of planned giving prospects and planned giving donors.
  • Work collaboratively across all Office of Philanthropy teams (Prospect Research, Stewardship, Locations, etc.) to cultivate and solicit identified individuals for planned gifts.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of Planned Giving and other Office of Philanthropy leaders to develop and implement strategies for location philanthropy offices to cultivate and solicit planned gifts.
  • Partner with location philanthropy officers to support the integration of planned giving information in major and leadership donor cultivation and solicitation strategies, and serve as a key resource on planned giving matters and gift conversations.

 

Planned Giving Program Strategy and Marketing

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of Planned Giving in advancing a cohesive, integrated print and multi-media marketing, communication, and education initiative for planned gifts
  • Support the creation and production of compelling planned giving educational materials for print and multi-media dissemination to inspire the supporters and donors to give planned gifts.

 

Planned Gift Donor Recognition and Stewardship

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director of Planned Giving and the Stewardship team, develop special recognition for planned giving donors and plan and implement high-impact stewardship and cultivation events.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director of Planned Giving and the Stewardship Team, plan and implement strategies to significantly expand the Dream Makers Legacy Society and ensure a meaningful, fulfilling, and enjoyable experience for its members.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 10 or more years of fundraising experience and familiarity with and involvement in closing planned gifts in a university, healthcare, or large nonprofit setting
  • Demonstrated experience in working directly with prospects and donors and communicating planned giving concepts and vehicles to varied prospect and donor segments
  • Bachelor's Degree

 

Preferred:

  • Experience working within a robust prospect management system
  • Experience with a customized relational database/CRM
  • Experience with planned giving software, such as PG Calc
