Job Overview

The Prosthetist/Orthotist is responsible for the assessment, measurement, casting, modification, fabrication and fitting of prosthetic and orthotic devices under appropriate prescription criteria.  They are responsible for the development of patient treatment plans including the design of the appropriate device and component selection in accordance to the physician prescription; appropriate, timely and compliant patient documentation utilizing EMR system; and the establishment of short and long term patient goals for documented outcomes.  The Prosthetist/Orthotist is responsible to direct the technical staff in fabrication of specific orthotic and prosthetic devices following an organized and orderly work flow with reasonable delivery dates of the orthosis/prosthesis to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the patient accounting for diagnosis, medical history, gait analysis, range of motion, muscle strength, vocation, avocation, as well as patient and parent desires
  • Develops appropriate orthotic/prosthetic design based on assessment data
  • provides complete orthotic/prosthetic Rx information to patients 
  • Consistently documents patient assessment
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to correctly fabricate orthotic/prosthetic devices 

Qualifications

Education

  • Masters degree in Orthotics/Prosthetics or
  • High School diploma or GED required combined with appropriate industry experience

Experience

  • 3 years clinical and technical O and P experience preferred; Board Eligible new grads accepted

Certification and Licensure

  • American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics preferred
  • Texas state license in Orthotics and Prosthetics required
