Job Overview

The Coordinator, Infection Control is responsible for directing and coordinating the infection prevention program of the hospital including education regarding effective precautions to be taken to protect patients, staff, and other persons from possible contamination or infection.  Investigates Infection Prevention issues, instructs healthcare personnel in standard and specific Infection Prevention procedures, 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and performs comprehensive surveillance activities and applies an epidemiological approach to identification of emerging infection prevention issues; including chart review, recordkeeping, updating of databases and preparation of summary reports
  • Investigates outbreaks of infection and unusual occurrences of resistant organisms and designs interventions for their control
  • Monitors the hospital environment for potential risks of acquiring and transmitting infections and organisms of epidemiological significance
  • Provides formal and informal educational programs to staff to facilitate awareness of and compliance for current infection prevention practices
  • Collaborates with employee health for surveillance of employees, physicians, and patients exposed to a communicable disease requiring follow-up and immunization
  • Applies excellent communication and teamwork skills to maintain successful working relationships with team members throughout the organization

Qualifications

Required:

  •  Bachelors degree required in Nursing, Health Science or a related field
  • Licensed in the state of practice or Certification from the Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology
  • Knowledge of CDC guidelines for infection control, TJC accreditation
  • Skills in Microsoft Office suite of products

 

Preferred:

  • 4 years related work experience
