Job Overview

The O&P CAD-CAM 3-D Technician I duties include but are not limited to perform daily work order & scan generation, digital preparation for carving/3-D printing. Detailed in the performance standards. Demonstrate competence in working with all carvers/printers including adjustments, calibration and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Independently operates all carvers, 3-D printers and software systems.
  • Retrieves, manipulates, and prepares anatomical files for CAD-CAM/3-D printing
  • Develops efficient and repeatable digital design workflows for specific orthotics/prosthetics applications
  • Makes accurate decisions concerning material selection for each project, using input from practitioners concerning patient’s size, diagnosis and activity level
  • Prepares and executes CAD-CAM/3-D set-up (finalized file, validate carve radius, foam block preparation, material selection with printer, alignment and finished product)
  • Oversees maintenance and cleanliness of CAD-CAM/3-D printing equipment and overall work environment
  • Plans and prioritizes the work week to accomplish routine responsibilities within the prescribed timelines
  • Adjusts schedule with assistance from supervisor to expedite emergency fabrication or repairs as needed
  • Supports field clinical staff/customers by communicating at the highest level; including but limited to work order and scan confirmation, rework on scan (by clinical staff) if necessary
  • To maintain and manage supply inventory of carver blanks, 3-D printing supplies and associated necessary carver hardware
  • Remains current on latest technology and material science as it applies to CAD/CAM
  • Applies manufacturer’s conditions of use
  • Safety
    • Completes department-specific and hospital-wide safety requirements.
    • Complies with safety programs.
    • Maintains clean, safe, clutter-free and orderly environment.
    • Wears appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working in all phases of fabrication and repair of O&P devices.
    • Utilizes proper equipment and departmental safety precautions and equipment to reduce fumes and dust whenever possible.
    • Maintains and cleans equipment in the O&P laboratory.
    • Takes leadership role in maintenance and repair of all laboratory equipment.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience with CAD/CAM and/or 3D printing
  • High School Diploma/GED

 

Preferred:

  • Orthotic and/or prosthetic fabrication in a laboratory or private firm
