Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center.  We have an opportunity for a full time Prosthetist and Orthotist (ABC) in our Erie location.

Responsibilities

The Prosthetist and Orthotist (ABC) provides direct and indirect orthotics care for patients. The Prosthetist & Orthotist assists physicians with prescription criteria, attends clinic and provides in-services for the clinic staff as specified by the Manager of O&P. The practitioner also directs the technicians in the fabrication of prosthetics and orthotics devices, assuring an organized and orderly workflow with reasonable delivery dates of devices to patients. The person in this role follows all federal, state and professional standards requirements regarding the provision of care and the compliance documentation thereof.

  • Acts as a resource to physicians, patients, families, and other medical care providers in the area of Orthotics and Prosthetics.
  • Works to find new and creative ways to improve technical and clinical outcomes utilizing materials and fabrication techniques.
  • Appropriately anticipates potential clinical problems and takes definitive steps to prevent complications.
  • Sets priorities for the delivery of care and recognizes the needs of our patient population: infants, preschool children, school-age children, adolescents, & early adults.
  • Accurate and timely completion of ALL required POPS compliance documentation in OPIE, for the provision of care. Practitioners are also responsible for placing replenishment orders in OPIE purchasing for any items taken out of inventory for patient use.
  • Helps in development of treatment plans, including prescription of orthosis or prosthesis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 1+ years of clinical and technical expertise in Orthotics and Prosthetics field
  • State License in Orthotics/Prosthetics 
  • Master's Degree Orthotics & Prosthetics; OR Bachelor's Degree with ABC Approved O&P Certificate program


Preferred:

  • BLS 
  • ABC in Orthotics and Prosthetics
  • 3+ years of clinical and technical expertise in Orthotics/Prosthetics
  • Experience with use of EMR (OPIE) software systems.
