Job Overview

The Outcomes Coordinator - Surgical Clinical Reviewer will collect and submit reliable data to the American College of Surgeons National Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP).  This position will work closely with the healthcare team to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects.  This position will also be responsible for overall maintenance of the clinical outcomes program and works to collect and track important patient outcome indicators and assists with translating results into clinical care of the patient and their families.  Responsible for working with all clinical departments to capture data that improves clinical care, entering clinical data into a database, tracking patient visits, auditing the data for completeness and accuracy, and assisting with streamlining clinical processes related to Outcomes data collection. 

Responsibilities

Responsible for oversight of the patient reported outcomes initiative 

  • train and support clinic staff in data collection
  • train and support clinician providers on interpreting patient-reported outcomes results in the EMR

Responsible for collection and submission of reliable data to the ACS NSQIP.  This is accomplished through high-quality data compilation, documentation and entry into the ACS NSQIP database of all eligible surgeries for the hospital.

  • Collect clinical data on variables, including perioperative risk factors, intraoperative variables and 30 day postoperative outcomes for patients undergoing major and minor surgical procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • validates and submits the data 
  • performs quality assessment and improvement activities
  • communicates with surgical patients via a 30-day follow up letter or phone call 

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor in Healthcare required
  • Clinical chart review and abstraction experience required
  • Must complete the ACS NSQIP Pediatric training prior to assuming the role

 

Preferred

  • MSN preferred
  • 1 year OR preferred 
  • 1 year ICU or PACU preferred
  • clinical and medical records experience preferred
  • quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred
