Shriners Children's Texas is where hope and healing meet. As one of only four pediatric burn specialty hospitals in the Shriners Children's health system, we are designated by the American Burn Association (ABA) and the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma as a verified pediatric burn center. Located on Galveston Island, our 30-bed inpatient hospital provides a full line of both inpatient and outpatient care specializing in burn care, orthopedic conditions, complex skin conditions, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. Our services extend to a number outreach clinics in San Angelo & Marshall, Texas, and Monterrey, San Luis Potosi, Guadalajara, Veracruz, Toluca & Chihuahua Mexico and Panama, which provide children and families access to high-quality, specialized burn and orthopedic care.

Job Overview

The Patient Care Assistant assists in the delivery of patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.  The PCA provides direct patient care and performs routine tasks as assigned.  Consistently demonstrates caring and appropriate behavior when interacting with patients and families.  Assists with wound and skin care, keeps unit and work areas stocked, and provides delegated nursing care activities as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers patient care including personal hygiene, nutrition, elimination, mobility, ambulation, comfort and rest.
  • Orients the patient and family to the patient care areas and assists them to feel comfortable with their surroundings.
  • Provides delegated nursing care activities and assists the caregiver as appropriate in daily care, oral hygiene, weights, I&O's.
  • Takes part in the discharge process under the direction of the RN.
  • Keeps unit and work areas stocked appropriate to the number, acuity and age of patients currently present including PPE.
  • Seeks opportunities to assist others when assigned work is complete.
  • Provides wound and skin care under the direction of the RN, as appropriate for assigned unit.

Qualifications

Required:

High School Diploma / GED

Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation through American Heart Association (CPR)

 

Preferred:

One year of pediatric experience
