Job Overview

The Executive Director of Strategic Affiliations & System Planning is a senior leader responsible for shaping enterprise-wide strategic direction while cultivating, negotiating, and managing high-value partnerships, affiliations, and collaborative initiatives. This executive integrates strategic service line planning, market analysis, partnership development, and system-level execution to advance organizational growth, enhance clinical excellence, expand access, and uphold the mission, values, and long-term vision of the health system.


The role collaborates extensively across service lines, hospital and medical group leadership, academic partners, and external stakeholders to align capabilities with market needs, strengthen systemness, and drive innovation in care delivery, operational performance, and strategic positioning.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & System Alignment

  • Lead environmental scanning, market research, and competitive analysis to inform system-level decisions.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee multi-year service line strategic plans in partnership with executive and site-level leadership.
  • Design and manage high-impact service line strategic initiatives, ensuring measurable outcomes and alignment with Vision 2035.
  • Implement and optimize service line performance dashboards and business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, ArcGIS, Excel modeling).
  • Provide executive-level service line reports, presentations, and strategic briefs to governing bodies, including the
    Joint Boards and executive leadership.

 

Partnership & Affiliation Management

  • Lead the planning, prioritization, and development of strategic affiliations, partnerships, and collaborative ventures in alignment with organizational goals pursuant to Vision 2035.
  • Develop and maintain external relationships with health systems, academic institutions, research entities, and payers.
  • Oversee sourcing, development, negotiation, due diligence, and monitoring of affiliation agreements.
  • Coordinate with clinical, operational, legal, and financial teams to ensure compliant, sustainable, and value-aligned relationships.
  • Identify opportunities for co-ventures, co-branded programs, innovative service expansions, and systemwide collaborations.

 

Leadership, Integration, and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Manage and mentor service line managers, analysts, planners, and partnership staff; oversee workflow, performance, and professional development.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, collaboration, systemness, and data-driven decision-making across the organization.
  • Serve as a key liaison across departments to ensure alignment of strategy, operations, financial planning, and partnership execution.
  • Ensure partnerships and strategic plans support Shriners Children’s vision, mission, core values, brand integrity, care quality, access to underserved communities, and mission advancement.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 7-10 years of healthcare strategic planning, operations planning, business development, or management consulting with a demonstrated track record of leading consequential strategic projects and delivering substantial measurable improvements
  • Master's Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Healthcare Finance, Public Health, or related field

 

Preferred:

  • 5 years of leadership experience in multi-site healthcare organizations or teams
  • Doctoral Degree (PhD, EdD, or related)
