Job Overview

Shriners Children's Greenville is looking for a dynamic individual to lead our Inpatient Services Department to a new level of operational excellence.  In this crucial role, you will be an integral player and contribute to our mission for providing stellar healthcare services for our pediatric orthopedic patients.  You will be supported by a simply amazing team of dedicated health professionals who come to work each day to do their best for our kids and their families. 

 

This role provides leadership and direction for staff to support the hospital mission, vision, and plan for provision of patient care services. Additionally, the role is accountable and responsible for planning, directing, organizing, and evaluating clinical practice, patient care, and operations of the department. The manager is responsible for all aspects of management of fiscal and human resources delegated to the department. Assures orientation, inservice, and continuing education for staff. Conducts studies to determine areas of performance improvement. Is an active member of the Nurse Executive Committee and Patient Care Services Committees. Participates in hospital committees as assigned.

Responsibilities

Clinical Practice
Leads effective clinical practice activities in areas assigned. Provides direct clinical patient care for discipline of origin, as needed. Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge and skills necessary to lead and provide evidence-based, safe, effective care and to guide staff through practice, ethics, scope of practice and regulatory matters in each area of clinical responsibility. Maintains membership in professional organizations and supports others active participation in professional organizations to access clinical and practice-related resources. Advocates the use of documented best practices by means of teaching and mentoring. Demonstrates competencies as a role model of evidenced-based practice, facilitates knowledge transfer to staff. Leads program development to best serve intended populations, effectively and efficiently and be a leader in clinical practice.

 

Leadership
Serves as a role model, clinical resource, staff and patient educator. Serves as a role model regarding leadership skills. Maintains membership in a professional organization. Leads regularly held meetings with staff. Provided key statistics as necessary. Participates in administrator on-call rotation.

 

Service Quality
Annual goals are identified for department, shared with staff, and evaluated at least annually. Individual and aggregate care is evaluated. Department goals are developed in collaboration with Director of Patient Care Services.

 

Staff Development
Reviews job descriptions and updates as needed. Assures competence of staff at all levels. Provides support and feedback to staff. Performance appraisals completed by due date. Assures staff receives continuing education annually and completes mandatory education on time.

 

Policy and Procedure
Leads committee review of nursing policies and procedures. Develops, reviews, and updates departmental policy and procedure. Monitors and assures compliance.

 

Department/Service Integration
Department operations, procedures, activities support hospital mission and vision. Attends 90% of department head meetings. Participates in hospital wide committees.

Qualifications

Education

BSN required

MSN preferred

 

Work Experience

2 Years management/supervisory experience required
1 year Pediatrics preferred

1 year Orthopedics preferred

 

Licensure and Certifications

RN license in state of practice required

Basic Life Support (BLS) required

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required
