Job Overview

Shriners Children's St. Louis has a full time Physician Practice Assistant position available!

 

At Shriners Children's St. Louis, we have a team of physicians and specialists who are highly trained and experienced in pediatric orthopedics. This team is equipped to treat children with a variety of different orthopedic conditions ranging from mild to complex. Other specialties you will find at our facility include limb lengthening and reconstruction, spine care, muscular and neuromuscular care, orthotics and prosthetics and plastic surgery.

 

Responsibilities

The Physician Practice Assistant supports the entirety of the physician and advanced practice professional (APP) practice, by providing clinical and administrative support to ensure quality and efficient operations of the practice. Involves direct patient interaction, scheduling, office coordination, and assisting healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.

 

Provides and documents care and comfort to the patients (infant through young adult, typically up to age 26) during outpatient clinics, including but not limited to obtaining medical history, ordering care per clinician-provided guidelines, casting, vital signs, and minor outpatient procedures under the direction of the physician and/or APP. Performs administrative tasks including but not limited to external referral orders, correspondence, scheduling and sending appointment notices, copying, filing, registering and other duties as assigned.

 

This role is vital in ensuring seamless daily operations by providing exceptional front office, clinical, and limited radiology support. The ideal candidate is compassionate, organized, detail-oriented, and thrives in a dynamic healthcare environment centered on the care of pediatric patients and their families.

Qualifications

Required:

  • HS Diploma/GED 
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) (required within 12 months)

 

Preferred:

  • Medical Assistant Certificate
  • Certified Medical Assistant or similar qualification
  • Previous 1-2 years of experience in a pediatric or orthopedic clinical setting
  • Familiarity with EMR systems
  • Familiarity with radiologic safety procedures and equipment, including limited radiology certification
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly with children and families
