Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center.  We have an opportunity for a Physical Therapist to join our Rehab team. The Physical Therapist is responsible for evaluation and treatment of inpatients and outpatients including infants, toddlers, school age and adolescent children. Interacts with families and children of all ages in an age appropriate manner in order to foster a family-centered care environment. Supervisory responsibilities of physical therapist, occupational therapists, recreational / child life therapists, rehabilitation aides, students, and volunteers as assigned. 

This position is per diem, exempt and benefits eligible.  Compensation is determined based on years of experience and departmental equity. 

• The Physical Therapist is an integral member of the rehab team and is responsible for the administration of appropriate treatment techniques and modalities for the rehabilitation of children aged birth to 21.
• Responsible for adherence to the scope and standards of practice as defined by the American Physical Therapy Association.
• Uses creativity, professional judgment, and problem solving techniques to achieve quality outcomes and provide the highest quality of patient centered care.
• Participates in patient and family teaching and works collaboratively with other disciplines.
• Plays an integral role in facilitating functional performance through the integration of skill development, strength and movement, play based activities, and social-emotional development.

Preferred

• 1 year experience in Physical Therapy
• Experience with concurrent diagnoses — Preference for candidates with clinical experience treating pediatric patients who present with both orthopedic conditions (e.g., scoliosis, fractures, post-surgical) and neurodevelopmental diagnoses (e.g., cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, spina bifida).
• Pediatric neuromotor assessment skills — Familiarity with standardized assessment tools such as the GMFM, Bruininks-Oseretsky Test (BOT-2), Peabody Developmental Motor Scales, or similar instruments used to evaluate motor function across neurodevelopmental profiles.
• Orthopedic rehabilitation competency — Demonstrated ability to design and implement post-operative and conservative orthopedic rehabilitation programs adapted for pediatric patients with neurological comorbidities.
• Family-centered care approach — Commitment to involving caregivers and families as active participants in goal-setting, home programming, and carry-over strategies across medical and community settings.
• Experience with assistive technology and adaptive equipment — Working knowledge of orthotics, mobility aids, positioning systems, and adaptive equipment used with children who have complex physical presentations.
• Interdisciplinary collaboration — Comfort functioning within a multidisciplinary team alongside occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, sports medicine, orthotics, and orthopedic surgery.
• Spasticity and tone management experience — Familiarity with therapeutic approaches related to hypertonia, hypotonia, and spasticity management, including post-Botox rehabilitation, serial casting, and tone-inhibiting techniques.
• Gait analysis and intervention — Experience with observational or instrumented gait analysis and the ability to design gait training programs for children with neuromotor and structural gait deviations.
• Transition of care across developmental stages — Ability to adjust treatment philosophy, goals, and communication style across the full pediatric age spectrum, from early intervention through adolescence and transition to adult care.
• Comfort with medically complex patients — Experience working with children who have multiple co-occurring medical needs, including those with genetic syndromes, metabolic conditions, or histories of complex surgical interventions affecting both the musculoskeletal and neurological systems.
• Pediatric custom wheelchair assessment and vendor coordination — Experience conducting seating and mobility evaluations for custom manual and power wheelchair prescription in pediatric populations, including the ability to collaborate effectively with local durable medical equipment vendors to coordinate trials, fittings, modifications, and timely delivery of complex rehabilitation technology.
